Jeanni Jensen, MA, LCPC
Psychotherapist, SOAR Psychotherapy and Testing
Jeanni Jensen, MA, LCPC, holds a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The George Washington University. She is a board-approved Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the state of Maryland, is certified by National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), and is a member of the American Counseling Association. As a psychotherapist within The SOAR Program for Psychotherapy and Testing, Ms. Jensen provides individual and group services to children, adolescents, adults, and families seeking greater wellness, healing, and assistance navigating life’s various challenges.
Ms. Jensen has extensive experience in evaluation and diagnosis, creating personalized treatment plans to guide patients toward their goals, and case coordination (e.g., communicating with other providers, schools, or community groups to maximize patient support.) Prior to joining the SOAR team, Ms. Jensen provided individual and group psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and their families at a youth-focused outpatient practice. She has also provided in-home therapy sessions for patients across the lifespan, and has served as a group therapist and treatment coordinator within an intensive outpatient program. In this latter position, Ms. Jensen especially enjoyed collaborating with an interdisciplinary treatment team to support the recovery of individuals in crisis. Ms. Jensen is excited to collaborate with her SOAR and WBMA, LLC. colleagues in comprehensively addressing, restoring, and nurturing each patient’s wellbeing.
Ms. Jensen knows that collaboration is also key within her own psychotherapy practice—an effective therapeutic relationship requires both/all parties to “show up.” She creates a warm, nonjudgmental and compassionate space where patients can safely explore and work through the obstacles preventing them from being their best selves. Sessions typically involve a blend of coping skills to address immediate symptoms, and augmentation of personal insight to strengthen long-term empowerment and self-love.
Therapeutically, Ms. Jensen’s work is grounded in a patient-centered, interpersonal framework incorporating principles of human development. She has completed trainings in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and Sand Tray therapy. All of her interventions are applied through a trauma-informed and culturally competent lens; Ms. Jensen is mindful of social and societal influences. She specializes in working with LGBTQ+ and adolescent/young adult populations.
Prior to becoming a therapist, Ms. Jensen was very active with the performing arts and community advocacy. She co-founded and helped run a local nonprofit, “Girls Rock! DC”, which provides girls, trans, and non-binary youth with programs that fuse music education with building self-esteem. After serving as a music coach, she eventually developed therapeutic services for the program’s youth and adults, which cemented her belief in the healing power of the creative arts.
In her free time, Ms. Jensen enjoys playing guitar and piano, traveling, playing board games, exploring local multicultural restaurants, watching true crime documentaries, and spending time with her family, which includes 2 dogs and 2 cats. Yayoi Kusama is her favorite artist, and her favorite food is avocados.
